Electric Boogie - A Journey Back The Early 80s
A wave of nostalgia for classic hip-hop is currently sweeping the globe, including Sweden. Time-travel with us to the early 80’s when Swedish hip-hop took its first, dancing step.
Our guide is journalist and contemporary historian Kenneth Seremet who was a part of the first generation of B-Boys in Stockholm. As an early practitioner of hip-hop culture, he contributes authentic hip-hop anecdotes from Stockholm, Gothenburg, Norrköping, Malmö and Uppsala.
Kenneth took part in the youth program Bagen, which aired on SVT (Swedish Television) in October 1984. Bagen presented the different elements of hip-hop in a Swedish context for the first time. Kenneth has also participated in hip-hop seminars in Moscow and Helsinki as well as published articles and radio programs on the subject.
The exhibition, Electric Boogie, is the result of 18 months of research and consists of rare archive images, newspaper articles, photographs, magazines, as well as in-depth interviews and personal memories of those who helped shape Swedish hip-hop. The material is unique.
The documentary film Electric Boogie, which was shown on Swedish television in December 1983 will be shown on several occasions throughout the week. The film is 34 minutes long and was an important part of the identity and belonging that many were seeking.
Welcome!
The Electric Boogie exhibition takes place November 26th - December 4th.
